Purchasing Renewable Green Products can be confusing. Here are some common terms and how they affect you:

non-GMO - GMO is an acronym for Genetically Modified Organism, generally referring to genetically modified crops. All our Corn Starch Resin Cutlery & Cups are made from unmodified or Natural Corn Starch, thus they are “non GMO”

PLA Resin - polylactic acid (PLA), is derived from corn grown in the USA. PLA cups & cutlery are fully biodegradable and compostable and meet the most stringent scientific requirements for biodegradability and compostability, and are ASTM D6400-99 certified for "compostable plastics". Though, they are indistinguishable from normal plastic and as light and strong, they fully degrade into water, carbon dioxide and organic material when composted.

Biodegradable – This is a “free range chicken” term without significant environmental impact. Biodegradable products will disintegrate over a undefined period of time when exposed to external factors, typically UV light. Unfortunately, this does NOT guarantee that the resulting disintegration will not leave toxic by-products.

Compostable – This is a much stricter standard the “biodegradable”.
1. The material must disintegrate into pieces smaller than 2 millimeters (about 3/32 of an inch).
2. The disintegration must occur in 180 days in a commercial compost environment.
3. There must be no non organic or  toxic materials as residual components.

Recyclable – This term refers to products that can be re-used for another purpose after being re-processesed. Examples of this are our Lobster Bib Placemats, which are made from paper containing 80% post consumer waste. Products contaminated with food waste are NOT recyclable!
